Meet Justin Otto, Project Manager and this month’s Hard Hat Hang Up.

How did you get into the construction industry?

I went straight into construction from High School. I have been in multiple trades until I started with a property management company. There I started in the field as a laborer and then grew positions over my 8 years to be the Estimator/PM running their inhouse construction side of 20 guys. Then I switched companies to get on the GC side where I was with a construction company doing more commercial and industry work. Later on, I switched to another construction company where I ran multiple multifamily projects in my 5 years there before coming to Chesapeake.

What do you like most about being a Project Manager?

I like the challenges that every project brings and how each project is different. It is also cool to be able to pass a building that I worked on/ built and I be able to say I was a part of that.

What has been a favorite project you’ve worked on recently?

My favorite project recently was Passport BMW. We had a great team on the project. The project had its challenges but the owner was very understanding and willing to work with us with all his changes/challenges.

What is your favorite thing about working at Chesapeake?

I enjoy the atmosphere at Chesapeake. I like the flexibility they give you to complete your job responsibilities. The people here make it fun and enjoyable.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

I have three boys in sports so I’m usually running around to practice or games. I love coaching the boys in football and lacrosse. We Also love the outdoors with hiking and camping.
