Jessica Lister
Meet Jessica Lister, Bid Coordinator and this month’s Hard Hat Hang Up.
How did you get into the construction industry?
I started out working in the environmental field. I have a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Master’s in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Management. For over 17 years, I worked for a restoration company primarily focused on the creation and restoration of wetlands and living shorelines – environmental construction! I was heavily involved in all aspects of the restoration department, but discovered that I truly enjoyed the “nuts and bolts” that keep everything running smoothly…the minute details, project management, writing bids and grants, and keeping everything organized. When I saw the Bid Coordinator position at Chesapeake, I knew it was right up my alley.
What do you enjoy most about being a Bid Coordinator?
The organization! I love helping to streamline processes and create a system that runs smoothly for everyone so that the team can focus on what really matters – diving into the drawings, understanding the project, and building the pricing effort.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Lots and lots of multitasking and prioritizing! I’m typically coordinating multiple projects at once. I might be setting up a new bid, while RFI responses are coming in for another, fielding questions from sub-contractors, and helping a team member locate a document – all at the same time. It keeps the day interesting and keeps me on my toes! I love the challenge!
What do you like most about Chesapeake?
The people and the culture. Part of Chesapeake’s mission is “enriching the lives of our associates”, and they truly go above and beyond to do this. Whether it’s through team-building events, lunch and learns, office lunches, 5R recognitions before every meeting…there’s a consistent effort to make sure the team feels connected, supported, and encouraged to grow and thrive.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy when you’re not at work?
I have a passion for fitness! When I’m not cheering my three amazing kids from the sidelines at soccer, cross country, or volleyball games, I’m competing in functional fitness events like DEKA and HYROX. There’s nothing I love more than pushing myself to the limit! In fact, my husband Matt and I built our own garage gym and obstacle course at our property in Cordova – Tardigrade Obstacle Course and Fitness Facility! Before and after work, you’ll find me there leading boot camps and training, and on weekends I’m often running birthday parties or team-building events on the course.
