Meet Scott Chenoweth

Meet Scott Chenoweth - Senior Pre-Construction Manager and this month's Hard Hat Hang-Up feature.

Scott was introduced to the construction industry through his grandfather, an owner of a large drywall company that operated for nearly 50 years. Scott eventually switched over to the GC side of the business, but says his time in the field plays a major role is his job to this day. "My years of working with my tools and as a foreman in the drywall trade have been instrumental in allowing me to do preconstruction work," he adds.

There are key traits needed for anyone to be successful in the preconstruction - a keen eye for detail, creativeness and vision. Luckily for team CCG, Scott brings all three of those to the table, providing tremendous value to our clients. "I really enjoy being part of a creative process of bringing a project to life from its inception," Scott says.

Scott's creativeness expands beyond the office. In his free time he enjoys photography, particularly photography related to his family visits to Disney parks and of abandoned buildings. When he's not at work he likes to travel with his wife of 38 years, his 3 children and 4 grandchildren.

1. What got you into the construction industry?
I got into the construction industry because of my family. My grandfather owned a large drywall company that operated from the late 1040’s until the early 1990’s. Because of the economic distress in the construction industry in the early 90’s, my father decided to close the business due to a lack of work, so that’s when I switched sides and began working on the GC side of the business. My years of working with my tools and as a foreman in the drywall trade have been instrumental in allowing me to do preconstruction work.
2. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
In my “free time”, I enjoy traveling with my wife of 38 years, my 3 children, 4 grandchildren, and photography (particularly photography related to our visits to the Disney parks and abandoned buildings).
3. What do you like most about being a Senior Pre-Construction Manager?
I really enjoy being part of the creative process of bringing a project to life from its inception. Meeting with owners and design consultants when the project is being conceived, and seeing it come to life is a very creative and satisfying experience for me.
4. What has been a rewarding moment in your career?
It’s difficult to pick out one particular thing, but what I find to be rewarding is delivering a project budget that meets the owners goals/expectations after being involved in the preconstruction and influencing the design and/or construction methods.
5. What’s your favorite thing about working at CCG?
The people. CCG has a great culture, and I have really enjoyed working in an environment where creative people are allowed to use their talents to provide value for the company and our clients.
6. Any advice for someone entering the industry?
Pay attention to what’s going on around you. You can learn a lot just by paying attention and watching. I learned a tremendous amount of things when I worked in the field by just watching what was going on around me. You may never become a master at those things, but if you pay attention, you can learn enough about a lot of things to help get you by.
