Meet Taylor Tobin, Chesapeake Contracting Group's Senior Marketing Manager and February's Hard Hat Hang Up!

How did you get into construction?

I received a call from my sister, Kaitlyn Allgood, Chesapeake’s Controller, saying we needed someone to handle our marketing responsibilities. I was really impressed with the company’s benefits, growth opportunities, and leadership, so I made the switch. I’m very grateful to have received that phone call! I’ve loved every minute of working in the construction industry.

What do you like most about being a Senior Marketing Manager?

I really love being one of the creative brains within the company. Our operations teams are incredibly talented at what they do, so it’s nice to bring a different skillset to the table. Another unique benefit to marketing is interacting with so many different departments – working closely with HR to make impactful programing for our associates, collaborating with business development to build relationships, engaging with our field teams on project updates…this list goes on and on! I also enjoy being able to build the company’s brand and see the impact that our department has made. There’s been so much growth since I started here almost 7 years ago and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next 7 years look like.

What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on?

My favorite project so far has to be the launch of our new website in 2021. Many people don’t understand the amount of work and responsibility that goes into building a new site, so I’m extremely grateful to have been involved in the process. Our website partners were amazing to collaborate with, and it was a great opportunity to tell the Chesapeake story in a meaningful way that felt true to our brand. After months of hard work, I’m beyond proud of how it turned out!

Any advice for marketing professionals entering the workforce?

This is specific to marketing professionals within the construction industry, but my biggest piece of advice is to go on-site as much as you can! I learn something new every time I put my hardhat on. Spend time with your Superintendents, ask as many questions as you can, and show genuine interest in the construction process. Having a basic understanding of the construction process will be a HUGE help in your career…plus, who doesn’t want to go on a construction site?!

What do you love about working at Chesapeake?

There is a genuine level of care about the people who work here, which has been proven time and time again. Considering we’re a construction company and not a marketing firm, I still feel fully supported and appreciated in my role. I’ve grown so much both professionally and personally, and I attribute that to the opportunities that Chesapeake has provided me!

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?

My husband and I are true beach bums. We love heading to Ocean City for the weekend and spending time with our family in our favorite place! When we’re not at the beach, we’re likely working on a house project, spending time with our nieces and nephews, or hitting up the farmer’s market.
