Respect at Chesapeake Contracting Group

May 29, 2025 | By Chesapeake Contracting Group | Where Vision Meets Values

At Chesapeake Contracting Group, being Respectful is more than good manners, it’s the standard we uphold across every relationship, every project, and every interaction. It means recognizing the value of people’s time, the weight of their responsibilities, and the importance of creating a work environment where everyone is seen, heard, and respected.

This month, we’re spotlighting what it truly means to lead with respect, both within the office and out in the field.

Leading with Respect in the Office and on the Jobsite

We understand that our team members have lives beyond the jobsite. Families, passions, and priorities deserve just as much respect as project deadlines. That’s why we work hard to foster a culture where time off is honored, flexibility is embraced, and associates are empowered to bring their best selves to work because they’re supported outside of it.

In addition to PTO and a floating holiday of each associate’s choice, we also offer flexible work arrangements, including flextime and hybrid schedules. These options are designed to help associates manage their time in a way that works for them, while still meeting the needs of their teams and projects.

Our goal is to maintain a productive and collaborative environment while also respecting the different ways people work best, which is why we aim to be flexible where it makes sense so that you can be there for all of life’s moments.

When we lead with respect and flexibility, we build stronger teams and a healthier, more sustainable workplace.

Respect Means Preparation and Safety

We bring the same mindset of respect to how we care for the safety and well-being of our associates.

We recognize that preparing for the unthinkable is one of the most respectful things we can do. Recently, we offered active shooter preparedness training, not out of fear, but out of responsibility. The voluntary session covered situational awareness, self-defense techniques, and the run-hide-fight methodology. This training gave associates the tools and confidence to respond in high-stress situations.

These are tough conversations, but protecting our people means more than meeting industry standards; it means facing difficult realities head-on and giving our team the knowledge they deserve.

Respect is making sure no one feels unprepared. It provides resources that empower our people to feel safe, supported, and equipped.

Collaboration and Respect on the Jobsite

At Opal Largo Station, a six-story, 379-unit multifamily development in Prince George’s County, our team has demonstrated what collaboration and mutual respect can achieve. Superintendent Carlos Torres and Project Engineer Chris Demilio have set the tone on site, leading with clear communication, transparency, and unwavering support for every trade partner involved in the project.

Their leadership was recently on display when they faced an incredibly tight delivery schedule. In just five days, they successfully delivered 36 units to the owner, meeting an incredibly challenging schedule. That kind of result doesn’t happen without planning, coordination, and above all, respect. Respect for the tradespeople doing the work, respect for the deadlines that matter to our clients, and respect for the process that brings it all together.

At Chesapeake, Respectful is more than a core value… it’s the way we work. From protecting our associates’ time and ensuring their safety to honoring the efforts of our trade partners, we know that great things happen when people feel respected, empowered, and supported.
